
This is the countryside surrounding our development, land belonging to the Ulapalakua Ranch. Occasionally we hear cows lowing, and see paniolos (cowboys) fixing fences. Once I saw the unmistakable evidence of a cow left on the pavement -- it must have gotten into the neighborhood through a broken fence. But this is what our yards would look like if we did not irrigate.
The mountain in the distance in two of the pictures is Haleakala, our volcano.
