MOSCOW, DAY 1

Our first day began with a lecture about the Russian character.  We found it a riveting presentation, and as a result, had a better appreciation of historical and current Russian issues, especially the Pussy Riot controversy.

Our outing that day started with a visit to the Glinka Museum of Russian Musical Heritage, where we saw, and heard, traditional instruments from all over Russia. Foolishly, I did not spring for the photo permit, so the only pictures are these of the exterior.  It was amusing that there was a metal detector/security desk on entry, which our entire group ignored, manned by a guard in full uniform AND a Kevlar vest. I guess those instruments are pretty valuable!

We ended our day with a drive around town -- see the photos of the last post -- and a stop at Grand Theater Square, where the legendary Bolshoi Theater and several major drama and musical theaters are located. Our Heroic guide Violetta gave us a grand presentation on Russia's theatrical traditions, Moscow theaters, and the current theatre scene.
