PARIS WEEK ONE

After the month in Turkey, we had three weeks in Paris.  We rested for the first few days, and exchanged our warm weather clothes for the cold weather coats and sweaters we had left in Anne's care.  We napped, and we rested some more.

One of our first outings was to the Musee Guimet, a museum of Asian art and culture.  We wanted to see Hiroshiges and also put our Turkish experience into context.

 A pillow, of course...

The Baccarat Museum was nearby, so we made a small detour.  The exhibit was off limits for photos, but the store itself was fair game.  And why not!?

I've been looking for some casual dinnerware for potlucks....
I guess this is when your roof leaks, so you can protect your chandelier from drips.

Friend Claudine arranged a walking tour of Bercy for us.  We were joined by Francoise O and Charles, and Francoise P. It was a neighborhood we had never visited, and there was a lot to see starting with the national library.

It has a forest between wings.

This is the library that is famously sheathed in glass, which causes the building to be very hot, and exposes the books to damage from sunlight.  So they fashioned doors to open and close to adjust for the light.
We crossed a pedestrian bridge close by to a park.

Art made from manhole covers.  If this looks to you like one of the critters from Star Wars, you would ne correct.
 And Indian chief.
This is a fountain; notice the water flowing between the raised stripes going downhill.

The old Amercian Center is nearby, now a cinema center.

We walked to a community flower and vegetable garden maintained by children.

Claudine explained that the area had once been the depot for wines coming into the city.  You can see the rail lines in the pavement and the brick warehouse.

We decided to have a cup of coffee, or tea, at the commercial area nearby, itself in the wine dealer shops renovated into chic boutiques.
