It started out to be a simple trip downtown to see two
outdoor installations at the Louvre, and a walk across the Pont des Arts, to
admire its lack of love locks, and a sculpture popup gallery.
We ended up walking almost 4 miles in the hot, humid
afternoon, arriving home just before the clouds burst.
A street artist JR (who I think is somewhat more than a
street artist, since his work is now at, and on, the Louvre), has made the
pyramid disappear. Yes, if you stand in
just the right spot, you can see what the Louvre looked like before the
pyramid. It is rather cool.
From there we walked through the gates to the courtyard
which hosts another installation by Josprin. It was an exterior mirrored wall surrounding an interior forest carved
from cardboard, another play on reflections, at least from the outside.
The door to the interior.
Our turn.
It was a pleasure to see the Pont des Arts shorn of the tons
and tons of love locks, with new railings too thick for the locks, and covered
with some sort of glass or plastic. Tom
enjoyed the sculptures a lot, and started pondering a vast estate to house
them. I thought they were interesting –
that’s as far as I’ll go.
Twist your mind around these reflections.
This was probably our favorite -- man being devoured by a wolf.
Just in case you think the French -- and she was French -- follow the rules.
More reflections.
Then it was back through the Louvre’s courtyards, and back
to the bus that wasn’t there – diverted because the exact spot for photos of
the invisible pyramid are on the curb, too close to traffic. So we walked across the rue de Rivoli, and
finally found our bus, rounding out our four mile walk.
