Musee d'Orsay

We sped over to the Musee d'Orsay on the last day of the Charles Gleyre exhibition.  He was a Romantic painter whose studio was home to many of the most important Impressionists.  He was quite beloved, probably because he allowed them to use his studio for free, and even though he was a member of the Beaux Arts, he was quite accepting of any approach the younger painters wanted to try.  His later works foreshadow impressionism.  One gallery's walls were covered with tributes to him both during his life and after death.  No photos, of course.

But there is lots to see in the museum anyway.  We gave the Impressionists a look-see, had an excellent lunch, and took a quick walk through the Post-Impressionists.

And then like the White Rabbit, we took in the time before heading home.
