Recent reading

mostly while enduring that bad cold everyone seems to be getting.

Open -- Andre Agassi (who knew? a very interesting read)
Elegance of the Hedgehog - Muriel Barbury (very French; not sure it was worth waiting for)
Year of the Flood -- Margaret Atwood (excellent, as always; next time, re-read Oryx and Crake first)
Devil's Candy: Anatomy of a Hollywood Fiasco -- Julie Salamon (fascinating account of the making of The Bonfire of the Vanities, not sure whether I need to read the book again or see the movie again or both)
Fatal Remedies -- Donna Leon (Inspector Brunetti in Venice, interesting if only for the cultural aspects)
What the Dog Saw -- Malcolm Gladwell (collection of brilliantly written New Yorker articles, all with odd connections and perspectives)
Audacity to Win -- David Plouffe (excellent account of the Obama campaign)

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou

It rained last night, but by just before dawn it was clear again.

That big ole moon hadn't set yet...
there were rain drops in the flowers and leaves...

and the bees were busy as... bees.

Happy New Year!

Mahalo, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen sent us a box filled with lunch -- pea soup, cheese crackers, cheese, and Christmassy napkins. We had had a ham, so then, we had lunch! Thanks, Mary Ellen!
