Cousin Jerry's 23 hours on Maui

Jerry and Cindy's trip from Illinois was delayed overnight by ice. Then when they were about to board their inter-island flight from Honolulu, Cindy felt ill and decided to return to their hotel. Jerry persevered, however, and arrived on Thursday at about 10:30 AM; we delivered him back to the airport about 8:30 the next morning. In the middle we got to the summit of Haleakala, made a rare nene sighting (the endangered Hawaiian state bird, a flightless goose found only on the slopes of Haleakala), lunch followed by a quick surfing viewing at Hookipa, a visit to Haycraft beach park -- donated to the state by an uncle of Jerry's mother (probably before ayone dreamed of what so much beachfront could be worth), dinner on the lanai, and a killer sunset. Whew!
