SF's Asian Art Museum

We managed to find the time for a trip to the Asian Art Museum in SF, to see the exhibit of Afghan Art. We had wanted to go for months, and were concerned that the exhibit would close and move on before we had a chance to see it. And as chance would have it, it had been extended for 2 weeks, so off we went.

No photos of that exhibit, of course, which we found to be badly planned, crowded, and really not a good representation. It consists of artifacts from six tombs and of two storage rooms, showing the mix of objects and styles from the Silk Road. We also found the audio tour to be long-winded and a repetition of what was provided on the walls of the exhibit. But we are glad to have seen it, even if a bit disappointed. Since that exhibit was fairly small, we decided to revisit the rest of the museum.

A Mainland Sunset

It never really struck me before, but both places we spend time face the west and the setting sun, and both are on hills with views of water. In the Bay Area we enjoy the bay and the lights at night (note to self -- next week's photo project, a night view), and in Maui we enjoy the sunsets and the stars at night. Symmetry?

Return to the Mainland

Most people know that Hawaii is one of the states of the United States, but a surprising number of people tell us that they are leaving to return to the States. The correct description is "to the Mainland." And so we are off to the Mainland for a month or so....Aloha!

A birthday sunset

My birthday was in Maui this year, and we enjoyed a lovely gathering of friends on the lanai, with the requisite sunset...the best gift I can think of. Mahalo (thank you)....

New Year's Walk

A pretty way to start the year....
