SULEIMAN CAMI

Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent presided over the Ottoman empire in its ascendancy, leading troops in battle as far away as Vienna.  His mosque, designed by his architect Sinan, is also magnificent.

After our visit to the mosque, we walked down the hill for a terrific lunch at a restaurant we had enjoyed with the tour, which also boasted a fabulous view from the rooftop dining room.

This is the Sultane's (Queen's) Mosque, with the Spice Bazaar below under the horizontal tile roof, and the Egyptian Bazaar under the colored awnings.
A view of the Galata Tower across the Golden Horn.  We would walk underneath it in a few days.
