Journees du Patromoine, Day One

Not by accident we found ourselves in Paris for the Journees du Patromoine, when private and public buildings not usually open to the public throw open their doors to welcome the masses.

We were ready, armed with a map, GPS, and a list of recommendations from Jeanne.

Saturday we headed out to the Assemble Nationale, the rough equivalent of our House of Representatives.

The desk of the president of the Assemble.

It would be nice to have the chandelier budget.

A sample banquet table.  This is the intimate gathering.  It seats 200.

 They treated us to music.
 Where the sausage gets made....

 and the votes get voted.

The meeting room adjacent to the main hall.

 The library.

 One last look back....
 and out we go.

Our next stop was an unscheduled stop at Hotel Rochefoucauld.  "Hotel" simply means a special house of some kind.  In this case, the house was showing the work of the artisans who repair and maintain the many spectacular finishes in the government buildings throughout the country.

And then we were out and on our way to lunch.

Our next stop was the Ministre des Affaires Etrangers, the state department.  While it looked familiar, we were through security before we realized that we had been there before.  But since such opportunities are unusual, we took the tour anyway.

 The view from on high.

 The queen's bathroom.

 The King;s bathroom.
