Back to Budapest

A different room at our faithful hotel...and our new view.  We had heard and seen the funicular from afar, and decided to ride downhill to walk across the bridge.

The Chain Bridge was designed before the technology of suspension bridges was invented.  We read that the lion statues were designed by the bridge architect, who killed himself when the emperor observed that the only thing wrong with the bridge was that the lions did not have tongues.  Turns out that story is wrong on two counts -- the lions were added many years later, and their tongues are clearly visible to anyone who wants to climb up and look inside their mouths.
 We did not.

The bridge was festooned with flags in honor of the Italian prime minister who was paying a visit.
