Day 7: Bucahrest Romania

We had a long bus ride from the ship into Bucharest.  It gave us a chance to see the countryside gradually turn into the city.  We saw block after block of apartment buildings, most in sad shape.

They had been built without insulation, so after the revolution, the insulation was added on the outside in colorful panels.

A highlight of the day was a visit to the Open Air Village Museum, which had examples of traditional houses from all over the country.

Addly, most of them reminded me of housing we have seen on Pacific islands.

 They even had calabashes!
 An outdoor oven.

This house was half under ground, in part to make it hard for the barbarians to see it.

We left the museum for the Parliament Building, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon.

 No elevators for tourists!

A wax seal on one of the doors.   The doors next to these were open and went into the same room.

The view from the Parliament Building.

 Back to the ship....
