October 6-7

So off to Boston! We arrived about 9:30, got our rental car, and sped off into the countryside, on our way to Martha's lake-side cottage in New Hampshire. It was dark, the drive was long, and we were more tired than we had hoped. So not surprisingly, the GPS had a hard time getting us to Martha's house. After a few wrong turns -- one of them was a road that hadn't been a road for quite some time, we ended up...lost. A guy walking his dog set us straight, and we got onto the right road, but then had problems finding the house -- the folks in that neighborhood are apparently allergic to house numbers. So it is 11:30 at night, we can't call Martha because she left for California earlier in the day and is still in the air.

But there it is...lit up like a Christmas tree, and like everyone in New Hampshire, the door is not only not locked, it is ajar. We have arrived!

So for two nights we enjoy Martha's cabin, do laundry, get organized, and nap away our jet lag. While it was a disappointment to miss Martha, we knew we would see her on another leg of the trip.
