Day 8: Bulgaria: Veliko Tarnovo, Kazanlak, Plovdiv

We left the ship in Rousee, and headed by bus through Bulgaria to Turkey.

Veliko Tarnovo, Land of the Tsars, was a charming hillside city with shops of handicrafts and Bulgarian rose oil.

We took in spectacular vies of the castles of the tsars.

We stopped in Kazanlak for lunch and a visit to the ethnological museum to sample rose water and liqueur.

The circus was coming to town!

We arrived in Plovdiv in time for a walking tour of the city and dinner.

Plovdiv was filled with Roman ruins and excavations.

It is also known for its art deco architecture.
