Fine Art of Budapest...in Paris

When we visited Budapest a year ago, we loved the city but we were disappointed that the Museum of Fine Arts was closed for renovations.

But we have come to realize -- and this should have been a reminder -- that when a museum closes a door, another museum open a door.  All of those lovely art works are sent on vacation.  And so it was that the fine arts of Budapest appeared at the Musee Luxembourg in Paris.  So we got to see them after all.

But first, our walk through the Luxembourg garden where we spied not only some bees,

but also....

who must have been very cute when someone got them for Easter, but then they were too hard to take care of so they were left in the gardens.  We wondered how long they would last.

Not only do they hang up their coats with real hangers before playing boules, but they protect them with umbrellas.

 Yes, she's there, too.

The works ranged from those distinctly different from Hungary,

to Dutch masters,

 To German studies,

 to French masters Millet
 and Cezanne.

Two of my favorites were by Hungarian artists.

 Rodin below.
And a haunting piece by a Hungarian master, inspired by Whistler.

And of course, Angelina was right next door, so we had to refresh ourselves with coffees and teas.

We ordered one Angelina which was devoured before I even thought about a photo.  Luckily, it was featured on the poster outside, since it was developed to celebrate the exposition.

We could have chosen others,  but one was enough.

We walked back to the metro, and noticed the windows of a doll house store along the way.

 Only in Paris!
