MOSCOW DAY 2, CONT'D

Our next stop was the New Maiden (Novodevichy) Convent.  We stopped on the far side of a park, and walked across.  Being such an unseasonably warm day, the park was filled with folks enjoying themselves, including small people enjoying this covey of ducks, which was a gift from Lady Bird Johnson back in the day.

We glimpsed the Convent from across the lake.  In the time of the tsars, this is where troublesome women were sent, such as the half-sister of Peter the Great, who attempted a coup.

Our second bridal couple of the day, posing for photos.
 The third, ditto.

We took a drive farther out of the center of town, for a panoramic view of the city, marred by bright light and an inadequate photographer.
Apparently there was a motorcycle rally going on, causing some confusion with traffic and the bus.  But we managed to find a church anyway.

 Could it be?

 Yes, bridal couple number 4.
And even some evidence of bridal couple number 5.  A big day for weddings in Moscow.
While waiting for one of our number who had gotten lost, we took in a view of Moscow University, looking more like the palace of Ming the Merciless, an architectural style favored by Stalin.  'Nuff said.

But then it was back to the hotel, with a view of modern Moscow along the way, of which they are justifiably proud.
