From Bordeau to Rochefort to La Gite to Paris!

On Monday we packed up early at our hotel, found our car, dropped off our bags, and had a quick breakfast at a nearby cafe.  I bought a few pastries, and we sped back to the car for the challenging drive out of town.  Thank heavens for our GPS, Mlle Fifi Le Bon Bon who got us out of town without a hitch.

We stopped in Rochefort, a seaside town just south of La Rochelle, to see the progress on the Hermione, a traditional ship being built with traditional materials and methods.  She is scheduled for launch in 2013 and to sail to Boston, as her namesake did a couple of hundred years ago.  First, there was lunch.  Over our moule frites (mussels and fries), we could see the name ARSENAL on the gateway.

Unfortunately, when we finally got to the entrance, the next tour of the interior was 2 hours later, and we had already seen the exterior.  So we walked around a bit, took a peek over the fence, and got back to the car, where Mlle directed us back on the road to La Gite.
Above, the Arsenal.  Below, the Hermione.

 An hour later, La Gite.

 Jeanne doing crosswords...
 Anne chatting with Tom.
The next morning it was up early again, packing the car, bidding adieu, and heading back to Nantes, where we dropped off the car and hopped on the train to Paris.

It was a long cab ride across town to our apartment on Avenue Junot.  We got inside, got settled, and then made the rounds for a few staples before heading across the street for dinner at the Cafe de la Butte, one of our favorites.

And just like that, we are in Paris!
