Versailles -- Joana Vasconcelos

Our first sighting of something out of the ordinary opulence and splendor was outside the throne room in the corner approach to the Hall of Mirrors.  It was too far away to see what it was made of.   It looked like plastic knives, forks and spoons twisted and melted together.

Then we were distracted by the windows in the Hall of Mirrors as the rain started pelting down, and an attendant was rushing to close the open doors.
.

Then, at the end of the Hall of Mirrors, shoes.  Pretty famous shoes -- we had seen photos of them here and there in Paris, advertising the installation, which was supposed to be over by our visit.

 They were made of...

 pots and lids...

and dutch ovens.

 But wait -- there's more!

Just beyond the shoes was another hanging valentine, clearly made of plastic tableware.

In the queen's bedroom, an odd sculpture seemingly of wood with wigs of various colors emerging at esch point.

Giant lobsters in the dining room.

And marble lions covered with tatted doilies in a salon.

I spotted one more sculpture in the gardens...but there could have been many more!

And silly me, I thought we were done!
